Beacon’s location is in the heart of vibrant downtown Evanston, providing our students with unique proximity and access to an incredible array of cultural and educational institutions, natural resources, restaurants, and public transportation. The Evanston Public Library is 1 block north, the McGaw YMCA is 1 block west, and there are 30 restaurants within a .3-mile radius. We are situated within walking distance of both the CTA and Metra trains.

OUR SPACE

Beacon Academy is an intentionally designed facility that fosters student/faculty interaction, student collaboration, friendships, and learning. The school is encased in glass walls creating an open floor plan that supports our interdisciplinary academic program. Our furniture is ergonomically designed and much of it is on wheels, helping us to create a range of different configurations depending on the classroom activity. Students and teachers can regularly be found collaborating in the same space, both in and out of the classroom. Each classroom has one entire wall devoted to a whiteboard which creates a dynamic learning environment where students can express their creativity. And rather than segregate in student or staff-dedicated spaces, everyone—students and faculty alike—is invited and encouraged to gather around our communal “Kitchen Table” during independent study or planning time.
