Description
Beacon Academy seeks to hire a dynamic and entrepreneurial upper school visual arts teacher to join our experienced and innovative faculty for the 2019-20 school year.
Requirements
The part time Visual Arts Teacher will teach 2 courses, including an IB Visual Arts class. The candidate for this position will be expected to design and maintain a class environment favorable to academic, artistic, and personal growth and to establish effective rapport with students while maintaining proper classroom management. Daily instructional plans should implement 21st-century pedagogical approaches. The teacher will work effectively with technology, use interdisciplinary approaches in the classroom, and show knowledge of project-based instruction related to the arts. They will work within a team setting of shared ideas and constructive feedback in a collaborative manner.

- Teach introductory Visual arts courses including as well as IB courses;
- Create a classroom environment that actively engages students and is developmentally appropriate for the age, maturity, and interests of the students;
- Employ a variety of instructional and assessment strategies, including, but not limited to, direct instruction, guided practice, demonstrations, discussions, and learning activities to facilitate knowledge and skill development;
- Plan, develop, and execute lessons that reflect the course curriculum;
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior;
- Know emergency plans and evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned;
- Know and follow school procedures and regulations;
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Head of School.


Preferred Qualifications

- A degree in art, art education education, a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Excellent communication skills, collaborative spirit, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and interest in innovative curriculum development
- A desire to share Chicago’s vibrant art scene with students through organizing field trips and visiting artists
- A commitment to the arts as a means of developing community, diversity, and inclusion
