Remote Learning: Spring 2020

Beacon Academy has established a reputation as a nimble and innovative school at the forefront of reimagining high school education. When COVID-19 hit in the spring of 2020, we responded quickly to safeguard the health and safety of our community, moving to synchronous online learning less than 24 hours after closing our building. Our incredible faculty rose to the challenge by providing creative and meaningful online lessons using synchronous and asynchronous tools to keep students actively learning and connected to one another.

Online classes, including small group breakout sessions, challenged students to do as they always have: think for themselves, collaborate and work in teams, and tackle authentic real-world problems, including issues related to the pandemic. As always, we balanced the social-emotional and academic needs of our learners with regular advisory check-ins and weekly all-school community meetings via Zoom, online meditation offerings and exercise challenges, and virtual after-school offerings (see Virtual Clubs & Interim+ tab).
