Justin Pitts

Justin Pitts joined Beacon Academy after spending ample time developing his teaching craft, working across a range of subjects and grade levels in schools throughout Chicago. Originally from Alabama, Justin began his teaching career as a Teach For America corps member. In his time as a teacher leader, Justin has worked with schools and principals to coach hundreds of novice and veteran educators, and designed systems and processes that drive toward efficient teacher recruitment, retention, and evaluation. Justin was recognized by Teach For America as the recipient of the Frances & Elliot Lehman Award which recognizes outstanding culturally-responsive teaching and pedagogy, and he was also selected for the inaugural class of the University of Chicago Teacher Leader Fellowship. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and from Indiana University’s O’Neill School of Public & Environmental Affairs with a Master of Public Affairs in Public Policy Analysis. Justin has two true loves: his dog, Lincoln, and the beautiful world of mathematics.
