Experiential Program (XP)
XP is a two-year Social Science and English program unique to Beacon that connects advanced curriculum to real-world applied experiences. It is designed to give deeply curious, motivated, and active learners an opportunity to expand on what they learn in the classroom through college and business school-style group projects, internships, and first-person research.
Over the course of the two years, XP students earn four course credits (two Social Science and two English) and a wealth of personal insight and mastery in academic and professional skills that will serve them well in college and beyond. The integrated curriculum uniquely involves a wide variety of research and writing (both analytical and creative), assignments that land on the desks of local businesses and non-profits, and a capstone internship and service project of the student’s own interest and pursuit. As a result, our XP graduates emerge confident and effective communicators, deeply critical thinkers, compassionate community members, and as one parent of a recent graduate put it, “really adept at adulting— making plans, meeting deadlines, dealing with others, and advocating for themselves.”
Students accepted into Beacon’s Experiential Program (XP) at the end of their 10th-grade year form a rising 2-year cohort that moves through the curriculum together, guided closely by our XP educators and a dedicated set of career mentors. Many also pursue IB classes, arts, athletics, various clubs, and outside activities. They graduate with XP distinction on their transcript, incredible stories to tell about their growth and experiences, and an emerging network of career experts. XP is one of the only programs of its kind offered at the high school level nationwide.
