Beacon’s music program offers an innovative and flexible curriculum rooted in skills, process, and projects. Students learn how to collaborate effectively, respond to feedback, and become familiar with the role of music in society. Self-expression and creativity are honored and encouraged, resulting in an appreciation of different musical preferences and styles. Small class sizes allow teachers to work closely with students, maximizing each student’s strengths and previous experiences. Course offerings include Choir and Music Studio, an Introduction to Modern Music and Audio Production. Beacon student musicians have performed at a variety of on-campus events, including Arts Night and Community Meetings, and off-campus for audiences in Evanston and Chicago. Whenever possible, we connect students with local musicians and offer field trips that allow students to experience Chicago’s rich artistic offerings in a real-world setting.
