Kira Tucker
Kira Tucker joins Beacon Academy after years of serving as an educator, editor, and literary liaison. A nationally-recognized poet and essayist, Kira earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and a Master of Arts in English with a focus on environmental literature, both from Northwestern University. There, she taught in the Department of English as an Artist in Residence. A lifelong love of literature and language fuels Kira both in and beyond the classroom. Prior to joining Beacon Academy, Kira also worked as a managing editor for TriQuarterly literary magazine and as an instructional facilitator in the Northwestern Prison Education Program. She currently represents authors as an Associate Agent at The Shipman Agency and helps fund the work of feminist creatives as a Grants Administrator at the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund. As an educator and author, Kira aims to inspire richer conceptions of literature—and, ultimately, the world—in each student she has the privilege to teach and each reader she is fortunate to reach.
