Fall ~ Cross Country
- Commitment: Cross Country practices 3 days a week and will participate in 5-6 regular season meets. Preseason practices begin the second week of August.
- Practices: M/W/F, 4-5:30pm. Students will meet in the lobby at Beacon and run to the lakefront for easy runs or workouts. Each meet consists of a girls race and a boys race. Distances depend on the meet, but are either 3 miles, 2 miles or 5K (3.1 mile). Our goal is to have a minimum of 5 runners to compete as a full team. Top 5 runners score points based on placing in each race. The team with the lowest score of all 5 runners wins.
- Meets: Held on weekdays September through October with some Saturday meets. We use the Beacon bus for transportation, with the exception of Saturday meets, in which everyone uses their own transportation.
- League: Cross Country is an IHSA sport played in our Lake Shore Athletic League conference.
- Post-Season: Cross Country participates in the conference championship meet, as well as the IHSA State Series. IHSA Regionals are near the end of October. The top 7 teams and top 5 individual athletes not on those teams advance to the sectional meet. At the Sectional Meet, top 6 teams and top 10 individual runners not on those teams advance to the State Meet.
