Madison Sloane

Learning Resources & Support Specialist

 

Madison Sloane joined the Beacon Academy community as the Learning Resources & Support Coordinator in the 23-24 school year. She began her journey in education as a writing center tutor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she explored her love for writing, poetry, and rhetorical analysis. After three years of tutoring fellow undergraduate and graduate-level students, Madison earned her Bachelor's degree in English. Her undergraduate thesis centered around disability theory led by Lennard Davis, a scholar in biocultures, disability, and normality. She continued her passion for disability scholarship and advocacy as a Teach for America Corps Member in 2017 and continued her study to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in mathematics education and diverse learning from Relay Graduate School of Education. She taught high school Algebra I & II, Statistics, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and College Algebra to students in 9th to 12th Grade while also working as a diverse learning inclusion teacher and student advisor. When her advisees graduated at the end of the 20-21 school year, Madison transitioned to working as a case manager, learning support, and diverse learning administrator at the Chicago Waldorf School. When she is not leading writing circles, anime clubs, and book clubs for families of neurodiverse students, Madison enjoys watching horror movies with her giant dog, Martha, and playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with her husband and stepson.
